DJ Logic w/ Fat Albert

Huge gig for Fal Albert happened on Feb. 5th. We played a gig with Willie Waldaman and friends at 43N, featuring DJ Logic! It was a huge jam as members of Willie Waldmans band came up and joined us for mostly improv groove funk sweating dance bebop. This was an amazing show as we were joined by Ray White (guitar w/ Frank Zappa ), Brian Jordan, ( guitar w/ Karl Denson) Terry Saffold ( drums w/ Isaak Hayes) DJ Logic ( Martin, Medeski and Wood, Soulive) Norton Wisdom ( stage Painting !!! ).
Everybody played their butts off. Hats off to Andy, Jeff, Becky, a jet airplane, and a pilot to make this show a reality. I'm sure we will be seeing these guys again.

Gig updates

12/21/06- Midschool X-mas Concert- the kids are alright! The pressure's on for me however. I have to sit in with the 8th grade band to fill in for the gravely wounded Cam, ( I'm accepting donations on his behalf- there wil be a jar). Always a fun event, and I'm proud of each and every one of 'em! Then, off to work I go. Parents, put the kids to bed, and head to 43North

12/ 21/ 06- 43North cool gig with Andy, Jeff, and featuring patrick Wright on keys, doing some standards, some bossas, and some who knows. A very big night, as it as well as being our first time with Patrick, it also is my first gig with Andy Calder-upright bass player.

4/11/07- I have been bad about updating my website! Here are some notable gigs that have happened since The DJ Logic gig on Feb.5

2/11/07- Did a nice bossa nova gig with Keith Phillips backing up Terra Hufsmith( Derriks sis) at the Wildwood Room in Victor. Al Klegge on bass.

2/24/07- Did a recording session for Margo Valiante at Ben Winship's Henhouse Studio in Victor. Margo has a beautiful voice, and I enjoyed the session tremendously. It's always good to see and work with Ben Winship. Maybe this year we can finally do something live together.

2/24/07 - 38th Annual 49'r Ball-Hustled back over the hill to play this annual Jackson event. I think this was my 5th of these.
Featured Jeff Taylor on Pedal steel and tele, and Dave and Kathy Mkann on bass, guitar and vox. I think the band was called Bandana. yea, I know....

MARCH 07- was a busy month indeed, with some cool gigs. To summarize some of the more typical stuff, i played 4 church gigs, 3 Coach gigs, 4 Fat Albert gigs, a Judd Grossman gig, a Snake River Band gig, A Superswag gig and a Deep gig.

Now for some of the not -so -typical!

03/01/07 and 03/02/07- The new theatre at the Center for the Arts opened in grand style with famous Broadway singer/ actor Franc D'Ambrosio's show "Broadway!", with bass legend Bill Plummer ( Nancy Wilson, Rolling Stones, Sinatra, Miles etc, etc, etc,) and myself on kit, led by his excellent musical director on piano.
Who's name I can't remember or find on Franc's website. So my apologies to the piano player.
Anyway, I was proud to be part of this event, and the show was a challenge to pull off, with only a few hours of rehearsal that day. But I believe we did a great job, and the sold out audience at both nights performances agreed with standing ovations.

3/21/07 Fat Albert once again hosted our friends from the Banyan/ Willie Waldaman crew at 43 North.
Stephen Perkins( Jane's Addiction) was  his usual powerhouse self with endless energy, leading the free-form jams with
his trademark tom/snare/tribal/metalfunk/sweat gumbo, while bass guru Rob Wasserman ( Jerry Garcia,Rat Dog) hovered over him catching every nuance. A great guitar player, who once again I can't remember his name, soloed furiously over the groove, while Wild Wiliam Waldman wailed wierdly the twumpet. Oh, and of course Norton Wisdom painted thruout. This was my favourite Banyan show yet.
Fat Albert played well also .

3/28/07 thru 4/01/07 Peter Pan!
Six shows in five days, sold out each show. Another set of gigs in the new theatre. I am very quietly proud of having performed there more than any other person, anywhere. I will keep this record for a short time, as there are more musicals planned this summer. I am the only one aware of my own little milestone.

I enjoyed the show, and it stayed challengeing for the duration of the run, mainly due to bells and timp parts thrown in inconveniantly while trying to play drums. My reading chops are coming back for this sort of thing. I hope it works out I can do somemore of these. There is another show called Crazy Love this summer.....??
4/11/07
This brings us up to Spring Break here in Jackson. No gigs other than the Coach and church for awhile. More postings in May.

 10-31-07 Happy Halloween Everybody!!!

Well, so much for keeping up on the postings.. Don't worry though, mom, I still have gigs! I've been working, not typing!

5-18-07 JHME Keith Phillips Jazz Workshop- this was the first time I was involved in Keith Phillips' clinic for adults, and I had a great time. Bill Plummer is such a pleasure to work with in this setting. Keith and I have taught together before, but not for adults, and not with Bill.   I talked too much.

5-20-07 2007 JHME Spring Student Recital: - One of my favourite things is student recitals. I just love 'em, and this one is the best. The new theatre is the perfect venue, and we had such a great line up. Too many to mention here, but Rock Camp alummni supergroup the Colours performed, along with students of Keith and Pam Phillips, Shelley and Kelly Ruhbrecht, Kyle Johnson, and others. It's been awhile now, but it was a great event. I'm very pleased, since it was my responsibilty to put this show on this year.

Next years JHME Spring Student Recital is being held on May 18, again in the Center Theatre. Again, my responsibilty. So if you want to appear, or your son or daughter does, or you are a teacher and have contenders, call me.

5-24-07 High School Band Concert- Lotsa Disney, Lotsa kids. I hope they all have a great summer!

5-31-07 The Middle School final concert was great. It's been awhile, so no highlites to report, but lots of fun.

This is a superb  modern bluegrass group that I'm am very proud to be invited to play with occasionally. I didn't know it at the time of this gig, but I was to play the Targhee bluegrass Festival with them later this summer. Definately a high point in a year of high points.
I must have done ok this night!

6-15-07 Jazz gig with Bill Plummer and Pam Phillips- brushes, brushes brushes brushes
Center Arts Theatre- no, not the stage, the lobby. We played as walk in and out music for the dance troup Diavlo. LUV PAM AND BILL!!

6-22-07  JHME Friday Live - featuring Pete and Anne Sibley( and their brother) Our family concert series continued this summer with Pete and Anne Sibley. They sounded great. Is it my imagination, or do the Sibleys have bionic smiles or what? There just don't seem to be nicer people to work with than this.

6-23-07 SRB private
