April 16 2008 Rock Camp update! Big News ! Clinicians for 08 are booked!
I am proud to announce this years line up of guest clinicians. First off, Jackson Hole Rock and Roll Camp is very lucky to have one of the worlds great bass players, and a first class clinician and educator, Steve Bailey www.stevebaileybass.com back again. If you are a young bass player, don't miss this opportunity to study with the best this summer at Jackson Hole Rock and Roll Camp, www.jhrocknrollcamp.com.
Always exciting to me is the announcement of our drum clinician, and this year is no exception with jam band great Jeff Sipe (aka apt.Q258) joining our crew this summer. Jeff is known for his work with a variety of artists, including Susan Tedeschi, Left Over Salmon, Trey Anastasio, and many others. Check out his website, www.jeffsipe.org for more info on his considerable discography and resume. Check out the May issue of Modern Drummer on stands now for a great article/interview with Jeff. Past years drum clinicans Stephen Perkins ( Janes Addiction), and Simon Kirke ( Bad Co., Free) both of them huge stars in the rock world, have been wonderful clinicians with the kids, and we hope to keep them in the family and see them in the future.
Our featured guitar clinician this year is none other than the great Chris Duarte, ( www.myspace.com/chrisduartegroup ). Well known as a Texas blues shredder, Chris' playing goes well beyong the blues. From funk to punk, from Hendrix to Coltrane, Chris is a dedicated musician whos reputation as a world class guitar hero is well known. We welcome Chris to Jackson this summer, and we all look forward to jamming with and learning from this versatile guitar master.
Also new this year to Rock camp is L.A. guitarist/composer Cameron Morgan ( www.cameronmorgan.com ).
Part of the large Banyan family ( Stephen Perkins improv travelling Rock and Roll circus ), Cameron came to Andy Calders ( rock camp co-founder, along with myself and Jeff Eidemiller) attention while Andy was on tour with Banyan earlier this winter. Returning from the tour, Calder raved about Cameron's playing, and recommended him highly to join the team. Check out the Mass Ensemble ( www.massensemble.com ), a very unique group that Cameron performs with and composes for. This group was here last summer with the Earth Harp, a one of a kind musical instrument that has to be seen to be believed.
As if all this guitar genius isn't enough, we have returning after a one year hiatus, Ross Martin on guitar. Ross has recently moved to New York, and continues to work with mando great Matt Flinner. Ross is one of my favourite players, and is a tremendous musician whos ability to teach what he does makes him an invaluable assett to our camp, when we can get him. You can find Ross online at www.myspace.com/rossmartinguitar. Welcome back Ross!!
Rock camp wouldn't be complete without our returning artists-in-residence Ariane Cap-bass and David Halliday-sax. Both Ariane's and David's contributions to Rock Camp have been huge. Coming from San Francisico, Ariane has been working on new groundbreaking rhythmic teaching techniques for the last few years, and her great playing and energy is a big part of what makes this camp so special. She is truly one of the family here, and when I think of this camp, I always think of her. You can find out more about Ariane by checking out her website www.arianemusic.net.
David Halliday, Salt Lake Citys finest and busiest sax player, is also a worldclass educator. Leader of his own band "Fat Soul" David is a stunning player, and has shared the stage with many, many notable jazz and funk masters, including Galactic, Josh Groban and the Temptations. David also has extensive teaching chops, and does a great deal in keeping our programs well versed in areas such as theory, arrangeing, composing, band leading and improvisation. We are proud to have David back again this year. Check out David on his www.myspace.com/davidhalliday site.

Well, after a bit of excitement, delays, nail biting etc.. Rock Camp has found a home for 2008 at The Wilson School. This is great news for us, as it became apparent that the Teton Science School had more science related activities using the facility in 08. Being a rather loud endeavor, Rock Camp, despite it's benevolent intent, makes for a lousy neighbour if you are trying to hold a seminar next door. Or 1/4 mile away.
We are proud to say we have a great relationship with the Teton Science School, and they are helping us again this year by makeing their dormitories available to us for Rock Campers in the overnight program. The 2 facilities are very close, so very little time will be used in transpo.
Registration begins in early Dec. If you are a drummer hoping to go this year, don't be late with your registration! I'm expecting an almost immediate sellout for drumslots again this year. Stay tuned to the website; www.jhrocknrollcamp.com in the coming weeks and months for updates on the specific date. Join the mailing list if you want to get our announcements.
